Aquent provided the strategic design expertise a global consumer products company needed in order to reduce spending and increase utilization rates for its design group. Since Aquent was first engaged, the operations manager has established workflow processes that have reduced client spend levels and the entire design team has maintained an impressive average utilization rate of 86 percent.
In order to create a more strategic, high-performing design organization, a consumer packaging goods leader needed to develop packaging designs that were higher quality, more innovative, and better integrated with the company’s overall brand initiatives. Although the company had an internal design group, it wanted to add dedicated design staff to manage the frequent updating of packaging designs for its many lines of business. The company needed a core group of designers and account managers to develop a comprehensive design strategy and deliver new packaging for a wide range of products. The company also needed the flexibility to use additional outsourced staff who could handle multiple projects from different lines of business at the same time.
The company cast a wide net in order to identify the most qualified talent to increase the volume and quality of its phase one design work. In addition to having a preexisting relationship with the client, Aquent was selected because of the depth and breadth of its talent pool. Aquent identified and placed a highly specialized group of talent, including an operations manager with extensive consumer packaging experience, two art directors/account managers, and a team of seven designers, to focus on updating existing product designs for store-specific packaging.
Three years later, the client remains extremely pleased with the exceptional and consistent performance of its Aquent talent team, which has grown to more than 20 members. Responding to the client’s needs, Aquent has provided the creative leadership to successfully develop and implement a comprehensive design strategy. Aquent also has added a production specialist to its core team, as well as a presentation specialist, illustrator, flash developer, and typography expert to work on projects as needed. From 2007 to 2008, the design group saw a 9 percent increase in the number of exploratory design projects it managed.
