Boston, MA (August 9, 2011) – Aquent, the world's largest talent agency for marketing and design professionals, in partnership with AIGA, the professional association for design, has released the results of its 11th annual survey of salary trends in the design industry. This year’s survey establishes salaries for 23 positions in digital and interactive design, including user experience designer and mobile application developer.

This year’s AIGA,Aquent Survey of Design Salaries is also includes hourly rates for freelancers. Although the survey found salaried compensation to be relatively flat, Aquent and its division, Vitamin T, have seen an increased demand for freelance work due to reduced staffing levels at in-house marketing and design departments in recent years.

“We’re pleased to see the addition of interactive roles to the salary survey,” said Aquent President Ann Webster. “It’s an important tool for businesses and talent alike looking to understand market rates for these in-demand positions.”

The AIGA,Aquent Survey of Design Salaries 2011 includes a salary calculator where users can see how salaries in their field differ across geography, job level, and company size. The survey also provides insights from AIGA Executive Director Richard Grefé.

“For all designers and creative professionals, it is important to take every opportunity to build skill levels and broaden knowledge, even during an economic slowdown,” said Grefé. “If designers are to provide effective communication, messaging and branding in the new global economy, they must understand the cultural context for design solutions and clients’ needs. This will depend upon knowledge, judgment and agility, not just skills.”

The most comprehensive study of its kind, the AIGA,Aquent Survey of Design Salaries is commissioned annually by AIGA and presented by Aquent, in cooperation with Communication Arts magazine. The survey results are available to the public at www.designsalaries.org.
